Helen & Sally at Chitwa Chitwa - May 2025

Fun, Funky, Friendly Chitwa Chitwa revisited

We were excited to return to Chitwa Chitwa recently to see all the changes to the camp and also to experience a different season to last time as they move into the dry season.  2025 has proved an incredibly wet year with late rains making the dam THE place to be.  Herds of elephant coming to drink and play, pods of hippos protecting their territories with some exhilarating displays, the call of the fish eagle (a personal favourite), kudu, herds of impala and waterbuck galore.  A reminder of just how special and unique it is having the largest dam in the Sabi Sands right infront of camp.

Chitwa Chitwa has also had a full refurbishment and is looking fresh. There is a glorious sense of space and vibrant reception areas.  The spa has doubled in size and the gym was being put to good use.  For us, the key features of Chitwa and what makes it so special, are the dam and the team (they are without a doubt a family) with a warm welcome as well as being charming and genuine and passionate about making each stay the very best and exceptional experience

Pizza stop at Chitwa Chitwa

Different places to eat every night, pizza truck pit stops, high tea and light meal options – all presented beautifully and accompanied by some excellent wines.

In addition, from the guides to the butlers, Chitwa produces incredible off-camp experiences too. Their bush dining and surprises are exceptional and potentially the best in the Sabi Sands with a team who can make a plan and execute it brilliantly.  We had a fabulous mimosa and pancake stop surprise on our morning dive, put on especially for Mother’s Day, a magical candlelit dinner under the mahogany trees,  pizza truck fun and a special high tea.   This is possible for a small lodge with an experienced team, they are nimble and create pure magic for their guests. It is a team we are truly proud to work alongside.

Wildlife viewing from the deck at Chitwa Chitwa

Naughty Nigel spotted

The wildlife viewing exceeded once more with 6 leopard sightings including one up a tree with a kill, wild dog just outside camp, snoozing lions, elephant, rhino and visits to a hyena den to meet naughty Nigel (no comments from us 😊).

In summary it was Funky. Fun. Friendly. Service extraordinaire and a sharp reminder that the dam remains at the heart of this exceptional experience
